Although quartz is not a natural stone, it’s a practical material that can take decades of heavy use. Quartz countertops are made with mixes 93% ground natural quartz with polymer resin., which makes the surface non-porous. This means that quartz countertops don’t require frequent sealing like quartzite or marble and granite will. In fact, an initial seal on a quartz countertop will protect quartz countertops a lot better than quartzite, marble, and granite. However, quartz countertops don’t tend to work well in outdoor settings, because the heat and sunlight can cause cracking and fading.

The kitchen is a busy place where anything can spill on the countertops. The resin that is used to seal your quartz countertop will protect it from most stains and dirt. Even if you do spill oil, wine, juice, etc, on the countertop then the only thing you’ll need to clean it is soap and warm water.  Steer away from tenacious materials that harden when they dry such as food, gum, and grease. Build-up from food is best removed with a putty knife. When the build-up has hardened and it is difficult to remove it with a putty knife, pour a bit of water on it to make it softer. Then follow up by removing it with a putty knife. So, if cleaning is not your thing, or you don’t want to deal with sealing regularly, go with quartz for your countertops.
